Your Archetypal Blueprint™ Type

Each person has a primary Archetypal Blueprint™ type which we use most frequently and comfortably. However, this primary Archetypal Blueprint™ type may change over time or according to circumstance. Different situations will call forward different aspects of your Archetypal Blueprint™ type, especially in corporate settings. This is important for leaders because when you operate from different places within your Archetypal Blueprint™ type, people respond to you differently.

For example, you may have one aspect of your Archetypal Blueprint™ type that you use primarily with your direct reports, another with peers, and a third when reporting to the Chairman of the Board. Then you may use another aspect of your Archetypal Blueprint™ type with your spouse or your best friend outside of work. Some people employ the same energy balance of their Archetypal Blueprint™ types across all environments, but that is only a small number of us. Think of each part of your Archetypal Blueprint™ types like a different facet of your personality.

Most leaders I've observed tend to run on one or two core, key parts of their Archetypal Blueprint™ type most of the time. But that can become a little stagnant and not give them what they need in order to pop to the next level of performance.

Have you ever noticed that some people who manage up well often struggle when interacting with peers? Or managing their direct reports? This is an example of an Archetypal Blueprint™ type which is a positive in one situation and a detriment in another.

As a leader, you can both optimize your Archetypal Blueprint™ types, as well as understand how to step into other parts of that type when you want to create a different result. When you gain this knowledge, you increase your personal power and ability to connect with others.

It’s not about being someone else or erecting a false persona; maximizing your personal Archetypal Blueprint™ types can enhance your relationships, open up new avenues of conversation and creativity, and improve your communication skills.

Do you ever feel like a different person in different situations? Does the energy of your Archetypal Blueprint™ type change depending on who you are interacting with? Give us your thoughts!
